The Norwin Youth Advisory Council, composed of high school students from across the city, presented their annual recommendations to the City Council this week. This year’s proposals include a youth mental health resource center, expanded after-school arts programming, and a student-led environmental stewardship initiative in partnership with the Parks Department.

Norwin City has received a $2.3 million federal grant through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to modernize its aging water treatment facility. The project will upgrade filtration systems, replace lead service lines in the oldest neighborhoods, and install smart monitoring sensors throughout the distribution network. Construction is expected to begin in early fall.

The Norwin Public Library has announced extended weekend hours beginning this month. The Main Branch will now be open Saturdays from 9 AM to 6 PM and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM. The expansion is part of the library’s commitment to providing accessible resources to working families and students preparing for state assessments.

Norwin City’s new community garden program is now accepting applications for the spring growing season. Located in Founders Park, the garden offers 50 individual plots available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis. The Parks & Recreation Department will provide soil testing, starter seedlings, and monthly workshops on sustainable gardening practices.

The Norwin City Council unanimously approved the Heritage District Revitalization Plan during Tuesday evening’s session. The plan includes streetscape improvements, facade restoration grants, and new pedestrian-friendly infrastructure along Main Street and Heritage Square. Mayor Eleanor Crawford called it a historic milestone for the preservation of our downtown character while supporting modern economic development.
